OTHER RESOURCES: AlterWind Analyzer Lite Installation Guide
Note: Your system must include the following hardware components and one of the following operation systems.
Step 1 : Download the AlterWind Log Analyzer Lite software from this link: Step 2 : Extract the zip file. You will need extraction software in order to decompress this file. We recommend you use WinRar. If you already have software to unzip the file, you can skip to step 3. Winrar is available for download at: Step 3 : Install the AlterWind Log Analyzer Lite application on your local machine. You can do this by double-clicking on the icon titled "aw-loganalyzer-lite-setup". The icon will look like this: Upon clicking on the icon, you will begin the installation process. The following subsections will list each of the install steps. -- Language Selection : Select your language of choice from the drop down and click on OK.
-- Install Confirmation : You will next see the installation confirmation box. It is recommended that you close all other applications before installing. Once you close all other applications, click Next to continue. ![]() -- License Agreement : Read the license agreement and click on the radio dial that states "I accept the agreement". Click Next.
-- Destination Location : Select the installation directory for the AlterWind Log Analyzer. The default path should suffice for most users. If you are unsure, simply click Next.
Upon clicking Next, you may receive a warning box stating that the folder does not exist. Simply click Yes, creating the new install folder. -- Start Menu Folder : The next box will tell the software where to place the Start Menu shortcuts. The default option should suffice for most users. If you are unsure, simply click Next.
-- Additional Shortcuts : On the next box, you can specify which additional shortcuts you wish to be created. Personally, I would recommend creating a desktop icon so you can quickly access your stats program. You are free to choose which icons you want to create. If you are unsure, check the "Create a desktop icon" check box and click Next.
-- Summary : The next box simply shows a breakdown of the options you've selected. Click Install. -- Post Install : Your AlterWind Log Analyzer Lite software has just been installed. Leave the checkbox selected to Launch AlterWind and click Finish. If you wish to Launch AlterWind Analyzer in the future, simply click on the desktop icon we created earlier. It is title "AlterWind Log Analyzer Lite" and looks like this:
Step 4 : You will now setup some basic configuration settings for your reports. -- Default Page and Report Path : You will first set your default page. For most websites, this is "index.html". If your homepage is a different filename, change it in the box titled "Default Page:".
The default Report Path will suffice for most users. Leave it as it is set and click Next. -- Domain Name : Here you will set the name of your domain. Input the domain name for the site you wish to run a report on. In my example, my domain is called "myexampledomain.com". Once you input the domain into the "Domain Name" box, click Add. Your screen should look something like this, with your domain name in place of "myexampledomain.com". Click Finish. ![]() Your report session is now configured. We are now ready to begin looking at your visitor's data. We will now need to get the data from your cPanel. The Analyzer software should have opened a new box titled "Add Log File". It is waiting for your logs to look at. We will leave this at this step and come back when we have some data for the software. Step 5 : We now need some data for our new software to parse through. To get this data, we need to download your Raw Access Logs. You can get your Raw Access Logs by clicking on the "Raw Access Logs" button under the "Analysis and Log Files" section of your cPanel. Login to your cPanel and look for this icon:
Upon clicking on the Raw Access Logs button, you will see a screen that shows "Please select a raw log to download". Click on the Raw Log for the domain name you want to see stats about. You will be prompted with a File Downlaod, be sure to save the file and note where you saved it. If you would like to see statistics for past months, you would click on Raw Log Manager in your cPanel. In my diagram above, it is the icon in the row above Raw Access Logs on the very right hand side. Upon clicking on Raw Log Manager, you will see three options of importance:
The first option specifies whether or not to archive your logs at the end of the day. If you wish to view your logs over an extended period of time, you need to have this option checked. If you do not have this box checked, your logs will be deleted daily to save server space. If you did not have this box already checked you will not have any data for AlterWind to parse and will have to wait a few days to accumulate data. Make sure to check the box and download your Raw Logs again in a few days to view the stats. The second option specifies whether or not to remove the previous month's archived logs. My personal settings are shown above, I would recommend you set yours the same. Below these two settings are the Raw Logs that have been archived for past months. Click on any of the logs listed there to download the logs for the appropriate month. Again, be sure to note where you saved the logs. Now that we have our logs downloaded, let's head back over to AlterWind and tell it where we saved them. Step 6 : We last left AlterWind Analyzer at the screen requesting the path to logs. We went to cPanel and downloaded the logs to our local machine. We now need to tell AlterWind where we saved them. We also need to tell AlterWind what format they are in. We will do that first. Select "GZip Archive (*.gz)" from the "Files of Type" drop down menu. In my example, I have my logs saved on my desktop, so my browse box looks like this:
I have selected the .gz type from the "Files of type" drop down and can see my log file. Click on your log file after browsing to it and click Open. Step 7 : We now have AlterWind installed, configured, and loaded with some logs. Immediately after loading your logs, you will be shown the Log List you just setup. From this menu, you can do multiple things.
If you wish to know what each icon does, simply hover over it and it will display it's function. Right now, we are only concerned with 2 icons: -- Add Log File : This is the icon that is the fourth from the left side as shown below.
Using this button, you can add additional logs to your log list if you have any downloaded. This will allow you to view the results of multiple logs from within the same report. If you have all the logs loaded that you want to view, proceed to the Generate Report button. -- Generate Report : Click this icon to view the report of all your visitors, hits, etc. which is extracted from your Raw Access Logs.
Thats it! You're finished! You have successfully installed AlterWind Analyzer and used the Raw Access Logs from your cPanel to view your website statistics. The report you generated in the last step will show you all the information you could want regarding the accesses to your site. Next time you want to view more logs, simply start over from Step 4. As always, if you need any assistance at all with the usage of the script, feel free to contact us. The link to our helpdesk is below for your convenience. Enjoy your new statistics software!
